If someone copies your design

A practical checklist for handmade sellers. Marketplace rules change, so always follow the current instructions on each platform.

Before it happens

Register each design the day you finish it, before you post photos anywhere. Keep sketches, process photos and the original image files in one folder.

When you find a copy

  1. Save the evidence. Screenshot the copied listing with its address and date, and keep the shop name.
  2. Gather your proof. Your certificate number and verify link, your original listing date, and your process photos.
  3. Use the platform’s report form. Search the marketplace help center for its intellectual property report form. You will normally give your contact details, links to the copied listing and to your original, and a statement that you are the rights holder.
  4. Be accurate. Report only work that is truly yours. False reports can be penalized.
  5. Keep records. Note the date of each report and each reply.

A certificate is supporting evidence, not a guarantee. Each marketplace decides on its own. For legal advice about a serious case, speak with a lawyer.
